The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) is scheduled for Wednesday, October 10. This test is very important for college-bound students. Freshmen and sophomores should plan to take the test as practice for their junior year. The scores of juniors who take the PSAT will be used to award National Merit Scholarships. Taking the PSAT is also an important way to get on the radar of colleges (something we’ll cover more thoroughly during our meetings). It’s never too early to attend college and career fairs. We encourage all high school families to attend, as it’s a great way to get a feel for the wide range of options available to students. Pre-registration is not required.
The Alpha Academy is dedicated to mentoring the young Black men of the Sacramento area. The Academy meets from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month from September to May at the Cosumnes River College Library in Room L-111. On October 26, Cosumnes River College will hold a Career Education Open House. During the program, held form 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., students will hear “pitches” from CRC’s Career Technical Education programs (including Architecture, Automotive Technology, Construction, Fire Technology, and Veterinary Technology) and then choose their top three. After that, they’ll attend in-depth presentations about the three they’ve chosen. Space is limited (first come, first served).
