On February 19 and March 19, we’ll hold special mock interview sessions for interested students. These short interviews will give students the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills and receive feedback about their interviews. They’ll also be able to provide other students with feedback. Every senior should apply for Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Foundation scholarships. There are more than 150 scholarships up for grabs for EGUSD students. Every year, many scholarships are not awarded because no one applies for them. The EGRSF application process is a bit cumbersome, but well worth the effort. CSU Extends Application Period to December 15

California State University announced that it is extending the application deadline for Fall 2019 to December 15, 2018. The CSU system initially extended the deadline only to those affected by the California wildfires (as did the University of California) but then announced on November 26 that the deadline is being extended for all applicants. The lawsuit accusing Harvard of discriminating against Asian American applicants has gotten a lot of media attention, but the New York Times shines a spotlight on testimony about the ways in which Harvard evaluates applicants in this article. The most interesting tidbits are that 30 percent of Harvard admitted students are athletes, legacies, children of faculty and staff, or children of wealthy donors and prominent people. Harvard also opens the door wider for students from 20 rural states, requiring lower PSAT scores to trigger invitations to apply.

College Board Launches Scholarship Program

The College Board – the folks that administer the PSAT, SAT, and CSS Profile (among others) is launching a new scholarship program set to roll out in December. Beginning with the Class of 2020, the College Board will award $5 million per year in scholarships. The California Student Aid Commission is bringing Cash for College workshops to EGUSD high schools. Cash for College helps seniors and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADA).
