Speech Contest The Rotary Club is holding its annual speech contest for students in grades 9 through 12. The theme of the contest is “Be the Inspiration.” There are three levels of competition. The first is the club level, followed by the semifinals, and then the finals. The deadline to apply is February 28. The club level contest will be held on March 6. Held at Sac State, "College: Making It Happen" is intended primarily for 6th through 9th grade students and their families, and provides practical and easy-to-understand information on how to prepare academically and financially for college. It promotes academic achievement and accessibility, educational planning, and parental involvement. This event reaffirms the message that college preparation begins many years before the final year in high school, and that college planning is a family affair. Mock Interviews February 19 and March 19

On February 19 and March 19, we’ll hold special mock interview sessions for interested students. These short interviews will give students the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills and receive feedback about their interviews. They’ll also be able to provide other students with feedback. The mock interviews will be held at Laguna Creek High School’s Career Center, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, and Tuesday, March 19. Youth Mental Health First Aid Community Trainings

Elk Grove Unified School District is hosting Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings for interested community members. One is on September 15 and the other is on October 13. Youth Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour public education program that introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and most importantly teaches individuals how to help a youth in crisis or one experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. Service academy nominations must be made by federal elected officials. Most Pathways to Success families live in U.S. Rep. Ami Bera's district, and Rep. CRC Career Education Open House October 26

On October 26, Cosumnes River College will hold a Career Education Open House. During the program, held form 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., students will hear “pitches” from CRC’s Career Technical Education programs (including Architecture, Automotive Technology, Construction, Fire Technology, and Veterinary Technology) and then choose their top three. After that, they’ll attend in-depth presentations about the three they’ve chosen. Space is limited (first come, first served).
